In late September this year, we reported on the results of the second renewable energy auction in Mexico. We then talked about one geothermal project being successful.
As now published, the one geothermal project successful in the auction was the Los Azufres III Phase 2 geothermal power plant by CFE. We reported about the project before. So under the auction, it now seems CFE was finalizing the actual price for the power to be sold from the plant that is expected to come online in 2018.
In December 2015, CFE awarded the contracts for the construction of the plant to TSK and Fuji Electric. In a statement then, CFE announced that the 25MW project, in the state of Michoacán, is expected to be generating electricity at a cost of 0.75 pesos per kWh (around $0.039/ kWh)
Under the auction concluded in September 2016, CFE will receive $25/ MWh or $0.025/ kWh plus an additional $12.5/ MWh ($0.0125/ kWh).
The overview published here, indicates that the price of energy sales and renewable energy certificates represents around 87% of the total achievable price for CFE.
One will have to look closer look and I have reached out to learn more.
Here an overview I was able to find:
