In a release today, Singapore based KS Orka (KS Orka Renewables Pte Ltd) has announced that drilling operations have started at its 240 MW Sorik Merapi project it bought this year.
The project is located in North Sumatra, Indonesia. In a formal Spud-In ceremony with representatives from the ministry and EBTKE the drilling works formally began yesterday. The first drillling rig operated by Dati is proceeding with drilling works on pad A and another drilling rig from KS Drilling is being mobilized for another area in the concession, pad E. The KS Orka team aims for bringing the first pilot power plant into operation in 2017.
KS Orka is a joint venture between Hugar Orka ehf, an Icelandic company and Zhejiang Kaishan Compressor Co., Ltd (Kaishan), which is listed on the Shenzhen stock exchange. KS Orka combines the Icelandic knowledge in geothermal development with Kaishan’s power plant technology and manufacturing expertise to form Asia’s only vertically integrated geothermal and waste energy company. KS Orka brings to the project some of the most experienced geothermal experts and power project developers in the world.
