With an ongoing effort of electrification and improving electricity transmission systems, Kenya has now reported the completion of a 480 kilometer electricity line connecting Mombasa with Nairobi. This is the last stretch, which now allows cheaper electricity generated by the geothermal power plants at Olkaria to reach the port city of Mombasa.
As reported by Standard Digital, the 400 kv line, which is a Vision 2030 flagship project by the Kenyan government, was initiated in August 2011 and was scheduled for completion within three years but vandalism led to delays.
With the new line, power supply in the country receives a big boost, accordin to James Mutemi of Kenya Electricity Transmission Company.
