Turkish company Hitay Holding has ensured that it is ready to work on the Gunong Geurudong geothermal project in the province of Aceh in Indonesia. The company has now asked the Aceh Government to assist with the approval of the Ministry of ESDM and the PSPE process (Assignment of Preliminary Survey and Exploration) so that the exploration site survey can be done immediately.
“We are ready to invest into this geothermal project this year when we obtained permission from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources,” said Chairman of Hitay Holdings AS Turkey, Mehmet Emin Hitay, in his meeting with Governor Irwandi Yusuf and SKPA announced in a press meeting.
Mehmet said the meeting was a follow-up to the MoU signed between the Aceh Government and Hitay some time ago in Turkey. The Gunong Geurudong project located in the mountains of North Aceh, Bener Meriah and Central Aceh, and it is estimated that the site has enormous geothermal potential. The potential power generation capacity on the site is estimated at 220 MW. For the first phase, Hitay plans the development of 110 MW in power generation capacity, to be followed by a second stage adding 110 MW.
“We sincerely hope this cooperation works out given the great partnership between Aceh and Turkey. If this is successful it will certainly help Aceh and more investors will invest in Aceh, “Mahmet said. Meanwhile, the Governor of Aceh, Irwandi Yusuf said that he would soon meet with the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources to accelerate the process of licensing for the Gunong Geurudong geothermal project. “If everything is clear, it will soon be implemented,” said Irwandi.
