Reported locally today, Kenya’s Geothermal Development Corporation (GDC) announces having secured a 40 year lease for the site of a geothermal power generation project in Menengai, Kenya.

During a visit to the site,  Managing Director Joseph Ole Nchoe said that Kenya Forest Service has granted them the rights and would go a long way to developing the project which is of national importance.

“The lease would give us an ample opportunity to develop the project fully which will impact immensely on the national social and economic revolution,” he said.

With up to 105 MW under development by three private developers, GDC hopes to be able to start geothermal power generation at Menengai in 2019.
