Today, the 4th Iceland Geothermal Conference opens at the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center in Reykjavik/ Iceland. Having established itself as an important international geothermal event. IGC is bringing together more than 600 participants from all angles of the international geothermal industry and supporting banks and entities. Partners of the event include the World Bank, EAGE (European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers), International Geothermal Association, IRENA, Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Industry and Innovation
As part of a pre-conference workshop, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) held two workshops, one on Geothermal Direct Use Utilzation and how geothermal energy can play an important role on food security and an interactive workshop on Strategies for future collaboration of regional clusters.
Another pre-conference course was held on Reservoir Modelling for management decisions as part of overall geothermal system management. It was held at the University of Reykjavik. The Exhibition opened April 24 with an Opening Reception, a wide group of companies, organisations and individuals in attendance providing ample opportunity to start networking.
Today, the event is kicking off with an opening speech by Iceland’s President Gudni Th. Johannesson and a welcome address by Gudlaugur Thor Thordarson, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland. Keynote presentations feature presentations by Adnan Z. Amin, Director General of IRENA, a representative of the Energ Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) of the World Bank Group, Cecilia Edling Östman, Founder of Heatpower and Dr. Marit Brommer, Executive Director of the International Geothermal Association.
The conference will then convene under the key themes of Vision, Development, and Operations, with special breakout sessions for the remaining morning of April 25 and full day of April 26.
In the afternoon of the first day, three offered field trips will be taking participants to explore Geology and Nature at the Reykjanes Peninsula, a tour of the Hellisheidi Geothermal Power pLant and the Hot Springs in Reykjavik and Hvergerdi in the south of the city.
On the full conference day, April 26, the series of presentations continue over day followed by a closing panel with keynote presentions by Shinichi Kitaoka, President of JICA, Christiana Figuerees, Former Executive Secretary UNFCC, Ragna Artadottir, Deputy CEO of Landsvirkjunm Paul Voss, Managing Director of Euroheat & Power, Alexander Richter, Presidenf of the IGA and Thordis Gylfadottir, Minister of Tourism, Inudstry and Innovation.
With about 600+ participants in attendance, the Iceland Geothermal Conference has established itself as a not-to-miss international caliber of highest quality.
