The Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum to take place, October 19-21, 2015 in Miami, Florida will feature a geothermal panel.
In the panel “Geothermal: Life After Guadeloupe – Dominica, Nevis & St. Lucia”, a diverse group will look at geothermal in the Caribbean. The panel will be chaired by Christiaan Gischler, Senior Energy Specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank.
“30 years after Guadeloupe opened the Bouillante plant, the Caribbean is still waiting for the next wave of geothermal generation. Nevis, Dominica, Montserrat & St. Lucia have traveled different roads but are close, we are told, to breakthrough. Do we have workable solutions to upfront risk mitigation and long-term financing? How are the donors & multilaterals shaping (or hindering) the process? Are Caribbean projects lacking in scale and too small to attract the right developers?
Participants in the panel will be:
- Sylvester-Clauzel, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, St. Lucia.
- Ellsworth Dacon, Director Energy Unit of the Ministry of National Security, Air and Seaport Development, St. Vincent & the Grenadines
- Zhihong Zhang, Clean Technology Fund (CTF) Senior Program Coordinator, The World Bank
- Hon Ian “Patches” Liburd, Minister, Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Post, Urban Development and Transport, St. Kitts and Nevis
