The Ministry of Energy in Mexico (SENER) has released Renewable Energy Technology Route Maps, among various other technologies for geothermal energy (power generation) and geothermal direct use.

As part of the initiatives derived from the Energy Transition Law to strengthen the operation of the Mexican Energy Innovation Centers (CEMIE), the Energy Secretariat, through the Energy Sustainability Fund, developed the Technological Route Maps (MRT) for different renewable energies, including geothermal, ocean energy, solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, wind and bioenergy.

The MRT is a support tool in the strategic planning that allows to guide the definition of projects and initiatives focused on strengthening and generating the necessary technological capabilities for the sustainable development of the renewable energy industry in Mexico, including aspects of infrastructure, specialized human resources , technological services, among others. The Maps present a series of strategic and enabling actions that are considered a priority to reach the installed capacity established with a vision by 2030, as well as a set of specific activities proposed to solve them, involved actors and estimated deadlines for their execution.

The following technologies were covered: thermal solar energy, biogas, biodiesel, solid biofuels, bioethanol, bioturbosina, geothermal energy, ocean energy, PV solar, wind power, direct use of geothermal heat.
